Stanley Brandt Obituary

Stanley Charles Brandt passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022. He was born December 21, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York. Although his initial college attendance was interrupted, he was committed to politics and civil policy and returned to Case Western Reserve University in his late 20s. In 1973, he met his beloved wife of 46 years, Mary Whitmer, on campus in political violence class. He graduated from CWRU with a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1976.

Stanley loved fast cars, the Cleveland Browns and making Mary laugh every day. He was a movie buff and also avidly attended live performance theater. He appreciated living in Ohio but never lost his Brooklyn accent: he was a New Yorker to the end. He was close to his Jewish faith, joining Shabbat services via video or in person at Temple Israel. Stanley is survived by Mary and his two twin sisters and their husbands, Susan and Jonathan Weiss and Linda and Robert Bianchi both of Long Island. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth (Brandt) Panitch.

Private family services took place on April 6, 2022, at Mount Ararat Cemetery on Long Island, in Farmingdale, New York. There will be a reception at Fairlawn Country Club on Saturday, April 23, 2022, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for family and friends who wish to celebrate and remember Stanley. Contributions may be made to Temple Israel, 91 Springside Dr., Akron, 44333 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, stjude.org.
