AKRON Melvyn “Mel” Mermelstein passed away surrounded by his loving family on September 22 after a short illness. Born May 8, 1938, Mel was a lifelong Akronite, respected local pharmacist of 50 years, and a beloved 12 year volunteer at Akron Childrens Hospital. Mel was a longtime fan of movies, Broadway shows, Mickey Mouse and a collector of Disney memorabilia. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy; children Robyn (Michael) Eberst, and Michael (Rhonda); grandchildren Abagail (Jonah) Hakaim and Marisol DiFeo; great-grandchildren William and Wyatt Hakaim. Service will be held Sunday, September 25 at 11:00am at Beth El Congregation 750 White Pond Drive, followed by interment at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home following interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beth El Congregation or Summa Akron Hospice.
