Leila Winer Obituary
Leila Marilyn Winer (Sheff) passed away on April 7, 2024 at age 94, surrounded by loving family members. She was predeceased by her husband Ben Winer, mother Rose Sheff, step father Isadore Sheff , and step brothers Leonard and Oscar Sheff.
Leila, in addition to being a masterful mahjong player, was an avid knitter and her sweaters and afghans were legendary, especially her baby afghans. Until stopped by a broken wrist, Leila made hundreds of baby afghans for children at Akron Children’s Hospital. In addition, each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as countless relatives’ and friends’ grandchildren have been wrapped in Leila’s beautiful creations.
More than anything, Leila loved her family. She is survived by her children Leonard (Charlene) Winer, Avrohom (Etta) Winer and Stephanie (Les) Schreiber; grandchildren Joshua (Michelle) Winer, Ira (Lisa) Winer, Shoshana Winer (Tim Stubbs), Menachem (Esti) Winer, Yeruchem Winer, Leora (Eli) Gunzburg, Tova (Eli) Benzaquen, Sarah (Moshe) Weiner, Emunah Winer, Sarah (David) Hecht, and Marni Schreiber; and 31 great grandchildren.
Donations, in memory of Leila, may be made to Akron Children’s Hospital, Make a Wish Foundation or the charity of your choice.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday April 9, 2024 at 11 am at Rose Hill Cemetery.
