Katherine Gruber, 97, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away of natural causes on Saturday, January 20, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Katherine was born on February 5, 1926, to Antonia and Salvatore Ferrise and lived her entire life in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from Buchtel High School and began her career at West Point Market and as a bookkeeper at Fairlawn Country Club. Her career continued at Mechanical Industries, but later she and her husband Arthur worked collectively as owners of Loyal Oak Swim Club and Loyal Oak Golf Course in Norton, Ohio, for over 60 years. Katherine remained active throughout her life.

In addition to being a successful businesswoman, Katherine, lovingly known as Katie, was actively involved with Revere Road Synagogue, where she was instrumental in many fundraisers over the years. She thoroughly enjoyed her years on the women’s golf league where she held numerous offices and won many awards for her golfing skills. She assisted with the Kids’ Golf League and was often seen on her purple cart. She enjoyed her time on Singer Island, Florida, with her husband where they made numerous lifelong friends. Most of all, Katherine treasured her time with her beloved and devoted family. The Gruber family picnics at the golf course created legendary memories for everyone. She was a loving and giving person who will be greatly missed by anyone who knew her. She was the glue that held everyone in the family together.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband Arthur; mother and father, Antonia and Salvatore Ferrise; mother and father-in-law, Rebecca and Frank Gruber; sisters, Theresa, Mary, Isabel, and Jean; brothers, John, Russell, Albert, Tony, and Frank; sisters-in-law, Molly, Phyllis, Jenny, Jenny, Pearl, Dorothy, Edith, Nettie, Shirley, and Alice; brothers-in-law, Roy, Dick, James, Michael, Jake, Mathew, Moe, and Sam.
