Delores Beyer Obituary

Delores (“Dee”) Stallings Beyer
Delores S. Beyer, 93, surrounded by her family, passed away on March 19, 2024, after a very brief illness.
She was born and raised in Akron, OH on November 6, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Stella and Dewitt Stallings. She attended the Akron Public School system; Betty Jane Elementary School and East Hight School (graduating in 1948). After high school, she attended the University of Akron studying early childhood education.
In her early career, Dee worked for Goodrich Tire and Goodyear Aircraft (Aerospace) as a secretary. She married William (Bill) H. Beyer on September 6, 1959, and moved to Blacksburg, Virginia for a short-time while Bill finished his college degrees and started in his first professional role as an Assistant Professor of Math. She served as an executive assistant to the Head of Plant Pathology for three years at Virginia Tech. Upon returning to Akron in 1961, Bill and Dee started and raised a family of three children. Later in life, after her children went off to college, she worked part-time for Burrows Stationary Supply.
After marrying Bill, Dee dedicated herself to raising the children and supporting her husband. While her husband was department chair of Math Sciences at The University of Akron, every year she put together a faculty get together at their home, each year with a different theme for food and dress! While raising a family, she was an active member of her church, Beth El Synagogue, and took on leadership roles of past President of Beth El Sisterhood and the Akron Chapter of Hadassah. She also worked on the Beth El Bulletin that went out to the entire membership monthly, and for more than 25 years she worked alongside two friends catering many social events and activities. Throughout her life she volunteered with numerous civic and community organizations, including the University of Akron, and continued for many years to be a member of UA’s Women’s Club.
Dee decreased her volunteerism over the years in favor of her favorite hobbies and life joys, including entertaining friends and family, sharing her love of books and reading with those around her, and traveling across the United States and Canada. Dee enjoyed attending movies and local Broadway theatrical plays, gardening and working puzzles. Dee loved following current events and keeping up with the news. She was always curious and fearless as a sparkling conversationalist and sharing her opinion. She was always up for a good debate!
One of her greatest joys was being there for her family, who always came first. She was known as helpful, caring and she was welcoming to all. She adored her grandchildren Riley, Cara, and Ava.
Along with her husband and children, the family established the Dr. William H. Beyer Statistics Scholarship at the University of Akron. She and Bill were donors for many years at the University of Akron and later established two scholarships at the university, the William H. and Delores Beyer Scholarship for Veterans in Mathematics, and the Kimberly A. and Delores Beyer Education Scholarship for Students with Disabilities, as well as a charitable remainder Unitrust.
Delores was preceded in death by parents, Stella L. and DeWitt Stallings, and brother Douglas Roger Stallings. She was preceded in death by a matter of hours by her loving husband of nearly 65 years, William. This is an indication of the great love, relationship, and the bond they shared. She is survived by her son, Brent Randall (Ashley); son, Charles Kevin (Kim); and daughter, Kimberly; three grandchildren, Riley, Cara, and Ava; nieces, Diane Renee Musashi (Bruce) and Kelly (Michael) Novikoff and great nieces, Cara, Katie, and Sarah of California.
Per Delores’s wishes, graveside services and interment only at Rose Hill Burial Park, 3653 W. Market St., Akron, OH on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at 1:00pm with a small gathering immediately following the service at Beth El Congregation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: William H. Beyer Statistics Scholarship, Department of Development, The University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325-2603
The family would like to thank Odessa, Dottie, and the nurses and doctors of the MICU/SICU at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center for their compassion, care, and kindness during Delores’s final days.
“Fill not your hearts with pain and sorrow but remember me in every tomorrow. Remember the joy, the laughter, the smiles, I’ve only gone to rest a little while. Although my leaving causes pain and grief, my going has eased my hurt and given me relief. So, dry your eyes and remember me, not as I am now, but as I used to be. I will remember you all and look on with a smile. Understand, in your hearts, I’ve only gone to rest a little while. As long as I have the love of each of you, I can live my life in the hearts of all of you!!! (Anonymous)
