Alvin Sherman Moses
August 17, 1939 – January 24, 2023
Alvin Moses was the dearly devoted husband of Sandra Lynn Moses. Father of Scott (Jennifer) Moses, Lisa (Rick) Spector, Eric (Michelle) Moses. Grandfather of Jared (Ilyssa) Spector, Jordan (Jojo) Moses, Corey Spector, Gabrielle Moses, Madison Spector, Samantha (Andrew Nash) Moses, Justyn Moses, Jaci Moses, Jayden Moses and Addison Moses. Great Grandfather of Charlotte Moses. Brother of Donna Friedman. Loving son of Isadore and Esther Moses (both deceased).
Al was a graduate of Peabody High School in Pittsburgh PA. He earned his Pharmacy degree from Duquesne University.
Al worked as a pharmacist for 53 years, first at Gray Drug and then at Marc’s Pharmacy. He was loved by all of his customers.
In 1960, Al married his high school sweetheart, Sandy Sussman, and moved to Akron, OH. They were married for almost 63 years.
Al and Sandy loved to travel to Phoenix. They enjoyed spending time with their 2 nieces in Phoenix, as well as their families. Their favorite trip was to Israel just a few years ago with a group from Temple Israel.
Al was a member of Temple Israel, Shaw JCC of Akron, Hakoah Club, and Temple Israel Men’s Club. He especially enjoyed being an instructor for Purim Ball with his wife Sandy for over 35 years.
Al loved to volunteer, helping many organizations including Temple Israel ushers, Summit County Board of Elections, American Red Cross, and Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank,
In his spare time, he enjoyed golf, bowling, and playing cards with his friends, but Al’s favorite activity was being a grandfather. For both his children and grandchildren he attended almost every little league game and dance recital.
Funeral services will be held at Temple Israel, 91 Springside Dr. Akron, OH on Friday, January 27, 2023, at 11:00 AM. The services will be officiated by Rabbi Josh Brown and Cantor Kathy Fromson. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at Temple Israel on Friday following Rose Hill Burial Park.
Shiva will continue at Rick and Lisa Spector’s house, 2201 Firestone Trace Akron, OH on Saturday January 28th from 6:00PM - 8:00PM and Sunday January 29th from 3:30PM - 5:30PM.
Donations can be made to Temple Israel or the charity of your choice (he gave to them all!)
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the wonderful caregivers at Timberland Ridge Skilled Nursing Facility who took care of Al for this past year.
